Default RWD ok instead of 4x4 ?

I just purchased an '05 Envoy yesterday (I pick it up tomorrow - well, later today as it's after midnight).

Took it out for a test drive, ran great. Found out when I got back that it was only 2WD (was listed 4WD in ad). GRR! I was VERY much looking forward to going from my 2wd Z24 Cavalier to a 4wd Envoy. We don't get a lot of snow where I am (southern Ontario) but it's just a good peace of mind knowing 4x4 is there if the weather gets bad.

How are the 2WD Envoys in the snow? Will I have much problem with it and be wishing I had got a 4WD ??

I too live in Southern Ontario, but have a 4x4 '02 SLE. Honestly, I rarely use the 4x4 option. I believe that I have used it to have some fun in snow banks, and just to ensure that everything is working correctly. The only time the truck has ever left two wheel drive is if it is really snowing, and my wife flips it over to A4WD. All said and told, you should be fine with the 2WD. Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks! (and thanks for putting my mind a bit more at ease) I've never owned a 4WD vehicle but remember times in the past in my Cavalier when I would have just loved to have it, especially on trips up to Peterborough taking the backroads instead of the 401.

I'll see how it goes... I can always offer it up for trade if each year I'm kicking myself for not having the 4WD option

you should be OK without the 4wd, a lot of people will think that with 4wd, ABS, Traction control, etc, they can race around in bad weather, bad data, always drive within the conditions, you will not have any issues, I have owned 4WD SUV's for the last 18 years, may have had to use the 4WD 20 times. the main reason i prefer 4WD i like to know that the option is there. I do see a lot of vehicles in the ditch during the bad weather, but i bet it's due to being to fast for conditions, and or worn tires. good luck with your vehicle.

I have 4WD 02 Envoy and I have used mine about more than 60 plus times.

This little SUV can get the job done. Ground clearance is an issue so I avoid the deep stuff. I've used it one time in the ice/snow and just took my time getting to my destination.
