Default Truck is automatically lowering

So I know I have air ride suspension but lately when I get out of my truck is lowers all the way to the ground. Most of the time it rises back up but the other day it didnt. Is it a sensor? Has anyone had this problem?

It sounds to me like your compressor is/has failed. My compessor on my '02 SLE just went last week.

How much were the repairs? Did you go to a GMC dealer?

I have called around, and I can only find it at the dealer up here (I'm in Canada) The compressor from the dealer (part only) is $960.00, which is ridiculous. I beleive that down in the US, the part is around $470, plus install. Occassionally, they show up on Ebay, but they don't stay around very long.

I greatly appreciate your reply. I have been scared it was going to be like $3,000 or something.

Thanks again!

There is a quick fix if it is your compressor. Actually, there are several options at your disposal. First, replace the compressor. I am actually looking to see if a compressor from a GM mini-van is compatable. I will hopefully tear into the truck this weekend, and I will let you know. The second option, Remove the entire Load Levelling Suspension, and replace it with standard coil springs. Just put a small cigarette lighter compressor in the back in place of the on-board one. The last option (and this is currently my back up in case the mini-van compressor doesn't work) is to remove the compressor, and use a 5/32 Union Tee to connect all of the lines underneath. You will have 1 line per air bag, and 1 line to the schrader valve in the trunk compartment. Once connected, use a standard air compressor to fill the bags using the schrader valve in the back (45-50lbs should do nicely I hear) Hope this info helps you out.
