well hello all, I just purchased a used 2007 Denali with 8900 miles, I have a question, on the oil mngt system sometimes it says in the book you do not change the oil for 10k miles, I am not use to this since I traded a 1995 explorer and changed the oil every 3k. How many of you change it way past the 3k mark? I am just not use to having the oil in there for so long. The Denali I bought was fully loaded but did not have the nav.

Congrats on the new truck. I'm sure you'll find it a superior upgrade from your Explorer. Each truck is equipped with the oil life management system. It monitors your driving style, and then gives a suggested oil change warning. I tend to change mine every 5000-6000 kilometers. This is just something I was raised with. If you are used to every 3k, then I would say to stick with that. It never hurts to change the oil earlier than you need to!

The book writes it that way on purpose. If using synthetic oil you can easily run it 10k miles on an oil change. I usually run my car about 12k miles per year on a single oil change. They all have over 100k miles and I've never had an issue. Changing oil early is a waste of money, especially since the oil was meant to run longer.

Thanks but since I bought it used with 8900 miles it says in the system it has 70% life left, I do not know if they used synthetic in it. But the dealer said where I bought it from says I can go like 10k on it with no change. Just depends on how I drive it.

With the oil life calculator, it really just depends on your driving style and miles driven. I have a 2006 Denali and mine usually runs 6 - 7,000 miles to get down to about 10%, which is where I've done my change. I really don't pay too much attention to the mileage.

My feeling is that with any previously owned vehicle, one of the first things I do is change the oil. In your case what I would do, and again this is just me, I would change the oil, reset the monitor and go from there.
