Default loud fan noise

Hey folks, car noob here so be kind. I have a 2002 SLT. It sometimes makes a loud noise from the hood when you first start it up and press on the gas, going away after a few minutes. It sounds like a loud fan or vacuum. Today the noise didn't go away, so I opened up the hood and had my wife rev the engine. The noise was coming from the big fan right in front of what I believe is the radiator (cue rolling of eyes :P). Any ideas of what this may be and how to fix it?

Thanks!

Chuck

Fan clutch is acting up on your Envoy. Get an shop manual and learn how to replace it. It looks pretty easy.

Go to the Stealership, and get the proper part number for the Fan Clutch. Then take a look on Ebay. You should be able to find it at a fraction of the cost, offsetting the installation cost if you are not comfortable with doing it yourself. I bought mine, and had it installed for slightly more the stealership wanted for the part alone.

the work is really not that hard if you have a good set of Craftman tool and some time.

To clarify the obvious, the iMac was shut down all devices were unplugged except the keyboard and
mouse then the power cord was unplugged from the back of the iMac.
What is interesting to me, when the iMac is shut down every evening a power strip is turned off that cuts off power to iMac, printers and external hard drives. So there is no power available every night? But unpluging the cord from the back of the iMac worked??

It's most likely the GPU fan, as it tends to rev up when under load and is typically noisy due to it being a centripetal fan. The only way to fix this is replacing the heatsink assembly.

Still, there's a chance that one of the other fans is to blame. It would be a lot easier to give advice if we knew what specific fan is causing the noise. Otherwise, all the advice we give is based off of assumptions and guesses.
