Default 2002 slt 4x4 problems

4x4 isn't working. been having problems with the indicator being to 2wd and then having it triing to shift into awd then 4wd be itself. it did it to me one night, and i could here it triing to shift underneath the car, and my service 4x4 light came on pulled over and turned the car off. then started it and service light was off and it seems to be fine. but now i have no 4x4. even when i turn it to 4wd. and help would be great. is there a sensor on the transfer case or something easy. seems if it's raining real hard after a while the service 4x4 light will come on and it trys to go into gear again.

There is a fuse under the hood that you could start with. Pull the fuse, and disconnect your battery for 10 minutes or so, allowing the computer to reset. If this doesn't work, check your local dealership for an updated computer flash. I believe that there are common problems with the selector switch randomly switching on its own. This may be a cheaper option to the computer flash. Last resort, TCCM. Hope this helps.

Actually, there are lots of reasons for indicator system problems on all cars. Try to take the cover from around the indicator arm and just clean it.. you also have to check for the earth wire.
