Default 05 envoy xlt fuel sending unit

Anyone out there had a fuel sending unit go bad? At least that's what I suspect. When I fill up, my fuel guage goes to empty and low fuel warning comes on. From that point, my guage moves to different points at random. I have to guess how much fuel I have. Is this a do it yourself fix/

New or old model?

New model - it is likely the fuel sensor inside the tank mounted on the pump housing. Difficult job.

Old model - likely the resistor wire connected to the float inside the tank.

Either way it is probably a fuel tank removal repair. The best thing if you want to attempt yourself is to buy a Haynes manual for your make and model. Research the fuel/electrical system. See if it is a sensor or float system.

Default fuel sending unit

Thanks for the reply. Right now, I fill up and set my trip meter to guesstimate my fuel consumption.
