Default oil change

I just recently got my first ever Envoy car. I don't know much about cars since this is the first time that I owned one. How long do I have to change oil and how often? I had the car for almost two months now. I was not informed by the previous owner of when was the last time it had its oil change. Is it ok if I change it now? Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can change your oil at any time. With not knowing the service history of your truck, I would change it now. Most people will tell you to change it every 5000-6000km (about 3000-4000miles). Some are meticulous about changing it at the mileage or every 3-4 months. If you stick to the mileage, you shouldn't have any problems.

Our trucks are also equipped with a light on the dash that will come on when it is time for a change. The computer bases engine oil wear based on your driving style and operating conditions of the engine.

I use Mobil 1 5W 30 and change my oil every 5000 miles. I reset the oil monitor and go from there. I check my oil once a month to make sure I am not burning any oil as well.
