The dealership is always going to run you high money. Their shop rate, and that stupid maintenance book of theirs is what kills you. The book tells them that an oil change is good for 1/2 hour of work, and a fuel filter for a 1/4hr (these are estimates of course). So, you get hit for 3/4hr of shop rate, meanwhile, the guy was changing the fuel filter while the oil drained, and wrapped it up in 20 minutes. You still get the 3/4 charge at, say, $85/hr.

Try to find a reputable mechanic in your area (talk to friends, family, co-workers etc.) They will almost always have a lower shop rate, and, depending on the mechanic, may only charge you for the actual hours that they worked on your vehicle. Just my two cents on the subject.
